Study Trip Support 2013

The Study Trip Support program allow NAMAC Members to visit the site of a peer organization in order to learn new approaches to internal operations, community engagement, artist relations and more.

Five eligible, NAMAC Member organizations will be selected for $1,000 Study Trip stipends.

Potential activities on a Study Trip include shadowing a staff person, attending a board meeting, observing exhibition programs, meeting with community leaders, meeting with local film/video/new media artists, and more.

Applicants will identify learning objectives and create an itinerary that supports these objectives.

Appropriate expenses for this option are airfare, ground transportation, housing, meals, and out of pocket expenses that are necessary for meeting your learning objectives.

The Study Trip is not intended to support travel to festivals, conferences, or other meetings, but is intended to be an educational opportunity for you to learn operational practices through exposure to a peer organization.

ELIGIBILITY

Only current NAMAC organizational members are eligible to apply. You can join NAMAC or renew your NAMAC membership with a few simple clicks.

If you are an Affiliate member, you will need to upgrade your membership to a full NAMAC Organizational Membership to be eligible to apply.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Applications will be evaluated based on the clarity of learning goals expressed in the application, the fit of the mentor organization, and the depth of thought and relevance to the expressed learning goals reflected in the proposed itinerary.

NAMAC seeks to support a diverse set of projects, as well as to support a diverse array of members with regard to organizational size, mission focus, and geographic location.

ONCE SELECTED

If your project or trip is selected, NAMAC will make an initial payment of 50% of the support.

NAMAC will disperse the second 50% within two weeks of receipt of the final evaluation report.

Within two weeks of completing your Study Trip, you will submit a final evaluation report to NAMAC.

Write “Application: Study Trip” in the subject heading of your email.
Give yourself plenty of time to complete these application materials! They require reflection and a thoughtful explanation of your learning goals and an intentional itinerary that aims to meet those goals. Your application also requires that you reach out to your mentor organization(s) in advance, so start early!
Please do not send ancillary materials like annual report, videos, brochures, flyers, etc. in support of your application.
Study Trip Support recipients will be announced February 25, 2013.
Submit a final report within 2 weeks of completing your Study Trip.

TIMELINE

Applications Released – December 19, 2012
Applications Due – January 31, 2013, 11 PM PST

Study Trip Support Recipients Announced – February 25, 2013
Complete Study Trip – March 2013 through February 2014
Submit a Final Report to NAMAC within two weeks of completing your Study Trip, or no later than April 2014*
