JOB DESCRIPTION — Project Coordinator (part-time)

The SCRIBE VIDEO CENTER, a non-profit, media arts education organization located in Philadelphia, seeks a part-time Project Coordinator for the Muslim Voices of Philadelphia community history project. ScribeVideoCenter provides instruction in video, film, audio, and interactive media production. Founded in 1982, Scribe works with individuals, artists and community organizations who wish to make use of video as an artistic medium and as a tool for progressive social change. Scribe Video Center uses video and other time-based media to document issues and ideas affecting diverse economic and cultural communities and to create media works that comment on the human condition and celebrate cultural diversity. We encourage new approaches to visual form and language in an effort to further the aesthetics of video movie making.

The Muslim Voices of Philadelphia is a community history project of Scribe that has engaged diverse Muslim groups to use digital media (video, audio, websites) to document the diverse and long history of Islam in the greater Philadelphia area.

Description of Position

The position of Project Coordinator for the Muslim Voices of Philadelphia entails outreach, administration and production work in the production phase of a community history project.

The work includes outreach to and serving as liaison with up to 15 Muslim religious, social, educational and cultural groups in the Philadelphia area who will be working on short documentary projects. The Project Coordinator also assists in recruiting independent filmmakers and humanities scholars to serve as instructors and facilitators on the productions.

In addition to the community media projects, the Project Coordinator will also serve as a production associate, assisting with research, planning and logistics of a historical documentary on Islam in Philadelphia that is being produced for broadcast television.

The Project Coordinator is an articulate and compelling spokesperson for the project. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in media production, which could include documentary filmmaking or website construction, and should be able to advise community groups about the production process. The Production Coordinator works closely with the Artistic Director and Project Director of Muslim Voices.
