Youth Changing the World, One Documentary At A Time

The Educational Video Center (EVC, www.evc.org) is seeking an eager and enthusiastic Development Intern to join our team and support the Executive Director and Development Manager in all daily development/fundraising activities. EVC is an award-winning non-profit youth media organization dedicated to teaching documentary video as a means to develop the artistic, critical literacy, and career skills of young people, while nurturing their idealism and commitment to social change. While the technology has drastically changed over the past three decades, we’ve stayed true to our core values and mission through our after-school and summer Youth Documentary Workshops; New Media Arts Program; Professional Development Programs; and Community Engagement and Dissemination Initiatives. EVC is gearing up to embark on a strategic planning process that will include new fundraising plans and strategy to increase major gifts and private funding to take our innovative youth media programming to the next level. The development internship is ideal for someone who is interested in learning from fundraising professionals and is eager to help brainstorm, create, and put new development processes into place to sustain and enhance our programs. We are looking for a minimum commitment of 12 hours a week for at least three months starting in October 2018. This is an unpaid position.

Under the guidance of the Development Manager, the Development Intern’s responsibilities include:
– Support Executive Director and Development Manager in daily development activities
– Conduct targeted institutional prospect research and prepare briefing documents
– Maintain prospect pipeline and ensure accuracy and integrity of Salesforce database
– Contribute to Individual Giving strategy development
– Support outreach to secure meetings and streamline communications
– Identify and help create pathways and events to engage donor prospects
– Pull reports on active EVC donors and partners
– Prepare reports, correspondence, memos, etc., as required
– Database Management Plan: Correct and maintain accurate records and files
– Support event preparation

– Interest in development and nonprofit fundraising
– Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
– Excellent research, analytical and project management skills
– Sound ability to work in Excel and Google Suite and manipulate data
– Contributes valuable research and event planning ideas
– Performs well in environment that values creativity, flexibility, and variety
– Exhibits personal qualities, such as open-mindedness, enthusiasm, and adaptability
– Ability to manage tasks in a fast-paced, team-oriented atmosphere and take initiative
– Understanding of social justice issues and a commitment to creating new opportunities for
vulnerable and underserved youth
– Quick learner, confident, self-motivated and outgoing
– Passion for social justice and youth media
– Some development experience preferred
