Media Program Director
Since 1932, the Community Art Center has provided a second home for youth through culturally relevant after school arts and media programs. The Art Center is a neighborhood institution committed to our mission to cultivate an engaged community of youth whose powerful artistic voices transform their lives, their neighborhoods, and their worlds. Having recently completed a renovation of our facility and a comprehensive strategic planning process, the Community Art Center seeks an enthusiastic, creative, highly-committed Media Program Director to help us roll out our new Teen Media Program structure, support our media programs for school age children, and grow our annual Do It Your Damn Self!! National Youth Video and Film Festival (DIYDS!!). In addition to working with staff to set program priorities, assess program outcomes and ensure program quality, the Media Program Director will have the opportunity to work with our leadership team to make decisions that will shape the Community Art Center’s future. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
- Lead the growth and development of Community Art Center media/creative technology programs according to organizational strategic plan, and using measurement of participant outcomes and assess program effectiveness
- Teach media literacy and video production classes in the Teen Media Program (TMP) and coordinate other youth leadership groups as needed, including the teen Youth Advisory Board
- Supervision of Teen Media Program and DIYDS!! staff, interns and visiting artists and secondary supervision of School Age Child Care Program (SACC) Media Teacher
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
- Spearhead Teen Media Program events and support all organizational events including overseeing all aspects of theDo It Your Damn Self!! National Youth Video and Film Festival (DIYDS!!) ensuring a high level of youth participation
- Plan and schedule offsite screenings of youth work and entry into film festivals and creative technology events
- General advocacy for youth in school, community and home
- Strategize and help to carry out program marketing and outreach initiatives
- Build collaborations and represent, promote, and advocate for the Community Art Center and TMP externally at funder meetings, outreach events, performances, public forums, online, and other venues
ADMINISTRATION & LEADERSHIP
- Ensure daily cleanliness, creative presentation, and organization of Media Lab and archiving of digital artwork
- Manage all administrative aspects of TMP including budget, policies and student files
- Support TMP and media fundraising efforts through contributing to reports and providing relevant information for proposals
- Serve as a member of the Community Art Center management team, responsible for making key organizational decisions and participating as a leader in organizational meetings as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Advanced understanding of media based youth programs, media literacy and video production
- Demonstrated 2-4 year youth development experience
- Knowledge of video equipment (current media lab includes 6 i Mac Stations and Nikon D5100 cameras) and post production software (Final Cut Pro and iMovie)
- Willingness to build knowledge base in creative media forms outside of area of expertise
- Experience with leadership in a nonprofit environment
- Strong belief in the arts as an empowering educational tool
- Commitment to working with low income and/or at risk youth from various racial and ethnic backgrounds
- Proactive approach to problem solving
- Ability to juggle multiple projects and responsibilities
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- PC, Mac, and social media literacy
- Excellent organizational skills
Additional Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in arts education, adolescent development and curriculum development
- Experience with Logic Model and outcomes measurement frameworks
- Outstanding outreach and youth organizing skills
- Creative, motivated, dynamic and outgoing individual
- Masters Degree preferred
- Bilingual candidates preferred (especially English and: Haitian Creole, Spanish or Portuguese)
